looking for a good book

Anyone read any really good books lately? I am looking for some books to bring for the choices for our next book club meeting. We read lots of novels, but nonfiction that is easy reading isn't out of the question. I am even just looking for books for me to read...seems like lately I haven't come across anything too interesting.

The Wedding, by Nicholas Sparks. I loved it! It was a bit hard to get into at first, but then it was great and hard to put down! The Time Travelers Wife is a great one too!

Seedfolks is a story about how a community garden brings people from very different backgrounds together. It's a quick, pleasant read.

I just finished reading Three Cups of Tea and Stones Into Schools by Greg Mortenson. The subtitle: Promoting peace with books, not bombs in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Good read with a lot to talk about.

The Help is also great.

I got here from your sister's "boring" quilt blog. :)

The Help, Water for Elephants, and Thirteenth Tale (a weird but good one) are my two cents. :)

You must read The Help by Katherine Stockett. Wonderful book! I just read it for my book club and can't wait to discuss it!

I have read a lot of the ones you suggested. We voted and are reading The Kite Runner next.

I just stumbled on your blog from another blog, so I'm not really sure what your taste is, but here's a few ideas:

The Unnamed by Joshua Ferris - an interesting look at how far you'll go for someone else in a marriage. Also, what happens to you when you lose what you use to identify yourself by (i.e. your career).

In the Woods by Tana French - This author actually just came out with her third book, but you should start with her first, In the Woods. She writes mysteries that are probably more literary than mystery, and her character development is something I haven't seen done quite so well. You should start with In the Woods, because her second book, The Likeness, follows one of the characters from In the Woods.

Geek Love by Katherine Dunn - one of my all time favorite books and a great book club pick. It's about circus freaks (literally) and when you strip away the freakishness, it has all the themes that you and I have experienced: sibling rivalry, trying to find your place in the world, acceptance, parents pushing their kids, etc.

Just a few suggestions! :)
