perspective

I read a book yesterday, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. No, I wasn't home sick, but my evening was free...and I had even exercised and run errands after school. It was an well written story, but I don't know if I would recommend it. The story revolves around the life of Amir, a young Afghan. It sure does bring a unique perspective to read about people so different than me living a life I cannot quite imagine. It made me feel that people that don't read miss out because reading is a great way to broaden your perspective of life and the world. What do you think? And have you ever read The Kite Runner? I am rather certain the movie would be difficult to watch and have no plans to do so.

I'm a little jealous that you can read an entire book in a day.

I think I read the first few pages of this book standing in a bookstore once. I thought I would pick up again sometime but have never gotten around to it. Yet.

I agree that reading is a great way to broaden our perspective. At one time the term well-read was a real compliment, I believe. I haven't heard it used to describe anyone recently though.

I read his other book, A Thousand Splendid Suns because I was told it was not so graphic. I think he is a wonderful writer and I thought it was the best book our book club has read this year. But as you say not a pleasant topic. I also read a lot about the author and thought his story was as interesting as his novels.

Hi Claire,
I read both books by Khalid mentioned in your blog and comments. I thought both told stories about such a different culture from ours. I am so lucky to be living in America where women and children (especially girl children) at least have rights.
